Exploring winter as a liminal space

Liminal space refers to the transitional state during periods of change, uncertainty, or transformation. It is a threshold where the old has ended, but the new has not yet begun. Liminal spaces are often characterized by a temporary suspension of normal routines and expectations, and they can provide opportunities for personal growth, self-reflection, and the exploration of new possibilities.

As the new year approaches, I've decided not to set a traditional resolution this time around. Instead, I'm choosing to embrace this liminal space and approach the winter season as a time for self-reflection. The colder months provide a natural opportunity to look inward, to take stock of my life, and to thoughtfully consider the path ahead.

Winter's Invitation: Pause, Reflect and Restore

Winter calls us to slow down and rest. It asks us to stop rushing, release our burdens, and relax. This is a time for self-reflection and renewal. By letting go of worries, we find comfort and reconnect with ourselves. Winter's message is to embrace stillness and use this pause to build strength for the year ahead.

So as the calendar flips to a new year, I'll be embracing the stillness of winter and allowing space for introspection. I'm excited to see what insights and inspirations arise when I approach this season with presence and patience. These are the kinds of questions I'll be sitting with over the next few months:

  • Is there a particular area I want to focus on?

  • How will I care for my body during these cold, slower months?

  • What nourishing foods will I include in my meals?

  • What books will I read to help me envision the year ahead?

  • How will I ensure time for rest and self-reflection? What will that look like?
